Meet Benny. He came with the name and seven years of being used to it so he kept it. 😀 Not all shelter dogs are the same. It’s been a few years, every day I’m grateful for Benny. He’s a rescue after his previous owner passed.

When I first met him at the shelter, he thought I was there for his favorite activity: walking. He was even barking the whole way home. Once we got home, he ran around full tilt for a couple of days & gave lots of attention. He even claimed my bed! 🐶🛏

One night, I could hear lots of fireworks. 💥💥💥 Benny whined like he needed to pee. Instead of going outside to pee, he flew directly into bed to sleep, being afraid of the fireworks. Next night; same fireworks, same dog in bed. After that, he waits for me on the bed. He’s also communicative with body language, waiting by or going towards, instead of or before barking for what he wants. He can have a conversation with a look in response when I tell him something but he’s always happy to see me and makes me laugh.

He’s been through 3 medical episodes including two surgeries I don’t know if I could have afforded with haveing started my own financial journey. But I would gladly pay for it again and again becasue the joy and happiness he brings is priceless and almost as irreplaceable as him.

Every morning he goes outside to pee then hops in my chair & waits until I sit down & proceeds to lick me like I’ve been gone all day! 😆 Benny sits in the chair, eagerly awaiting me, as if to say “Please come sit with me.” I do and I give thanks for that time because we’re both happy and satisfied. He licks me as if he hasn’t seen me in a long time but it’s only been minutes. Then he snuggles into the chair. He just wants time together.

What if your prayer life was like that? God waits to hear from us. Imagine Him saying “I want to spend time with you. Please come spend time with me,” like Benny eagerly awaiting a seat companion; with patience and out of love. Praying to God is not just talking but listening as well. When we talk we may let God know what we feel. When we listen and give God the opportunity to answer, the answers come in His time and His way. Be patient great rewards often take time.

Your dog may not lick or snuggle with you at your command, just as God may not answer on your time table. God and dog both wait but will reward you in ways of their choosing of both how and when. Give each the opportunity to show that love He may just be waiting for the right time and opportunity.

Would you sit with your dog for 15 minutes for free? Would you sit with God for 15 minutes for free?

By the way: yes, I sat with God and Benny after taking this pic. 😀
