Recently, I had been spending too much money on myself. It didn’t make me feel better. I wanted to make a positive change in my own finances. Everything was going smoothly; the bill came in and was paid in full all the time. I still felt like making a change would be good. I dove into my most recent credit card statement. Lo and behold; my money ship was taking on water! 🌊🌊🚢

That water 🌊 came in the form of recurring monthly billings. I like to have healthy food so I put a couple of things on auto ship. Well, I hadn’t been using as much as I thought so I ended up with extra. Enough to last a month. Time to hop on the phone. In one phone call I didn’t spend $84 by skipping one delivery and another $12 on another! The best part is I’m as happy and healthy as before because I still have the extra to use.

Later, I saw I forgot to cancel a free trial. Rats! One phone call and boom! Another $8 bucks a month that’ doesn’t get spent for an app I hadn’t used much. I don’t miss it at all.

That’s $104 without missing anything or breaking a sweat!

The moral of the story: set aside 10 minutes a month to review your statements because there may be easy savings staring you in the face. Regardless of what you find in your spending you’ll have a better idea of hat is happening and can talk about what to do in the future buoyed by this knowledge.
